 Social Studies

Students are currently learning locations of the states. They have maps to study as well as a list of websites for practice. After learning the states, we will move to continents and oceans. 

  • The test on Northeast Region states will be this Wednesday, May 2nd.
  • The study guide for continents and oceans will be given to students on Wednesday, May 2nd. The test will be given on Tuesday, May 8th.

The Civil War is also part of our Social Studies lesson.

 

Reading/ Making Meaning

 

 

We have begun our study of The Civil War as a prelude to our field trip to the Corinth Civil War Interpretive Center and Shiloh National Military Park on Tuesday, May 15th.

 

Students are reading The Voices of Bull Run to analyze and understand the war from different points of view.

Our read aloud is The Mostly True Adventures of Homer P. Figg by Rodman Philbrick.

 

Being a Writer

 

As an extention of reading and learning about the life of Harry Houdini, students have been researching famous magicians and practicing card tricks. These things will culminate into an informational writing piece and presentation. Students will present their magic tricks or card tricks to the class when they present. *Students may choose to present a card trick OR another magic trick of their choice. The date of this presentation will be announced once it is scheduled. The iPads are not available for research at this point due to state testing. 

   Grammar

Interjections and coorelative conjunctions- assessment will be Tuesday, May 8th. Then we will begin formal and informal language. 

 

Spelling

We have finished our last spelling lesson. We will focus on carrying over correct spelling into writing as well as using the correct form of homonyms.
